What should we do in our lives to prepare for death?

It must be noted that this world is a materialistic and
transient one and the pious have said that it is one which deserves to be relinquished.
It is evident from the verse of the Holy Qur’an which has been quoted earlier that, one day death will indeed come.

The fact that we have to journey from this world one day means that we should be preparing for the hereafter, where we will live forever, and that moment when death will come should be given priority to at all times.

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said to Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar Radiallahu Ta’ala Anhu

‘Live in this world like a traveller (Musafir), but rather like a
wayfarer’.
